JOB DUTIES:
This role supports the Material Planning Supervisor as a key team member working with Material Planning Analysts to plan and procure material into a facility for production.

This position translates work instructions to Material Planning Analysts, and supports their work on a tactical, day-to-day basis. The incumbent plans, initiates, and maintains a material management process aligned with CPS Supply Chain Processes.

Supports and coaches Material Planning Analysts to acquire material at the least total cost, best quality and timely delivery for material purchases from internal/external suppliers. Includes managing inventory and record accuracy through monitoring shortage / surplus exception, supplier follow ups, negative on-hands and daily delivery performance.

Directs internal/external material flow planning. Implements efficient supplier and interplant material supply plans. Meets production and parts requirements while optimizing inventory levels, lot sizing, considering lead times, and optimizing packaging, containerization and transportation of material.

Coaches Material Planning Analysts on Supplier Relationship Management tools and techniques. Works closely with Supply Chain Performance Engineers to plan and implement methods to assure suppliers are meeting Caterpillars technological, communication, material delivery, financial management, and quality needs.

Participates in supplier quality improvement efforts. Provides material requirements expertise to Six Sigma projects and Lean Events as required.

Leads teams of Material Planning Analysts in career development and capability-building, especially in the areas of evaluative / analytical thinking, innovative approaches to problem solving and team building. The position has input to Material Planning Supervisor job performance evaluation process for team members.


POSITION IMPACTS: Incumbent is responsible to achieve corporate supply chain targets across Inventory Level / Turns and point of use availability.

· Qualified CPS Support Team Leader
· 6Sigma Project experience
· CPS Functional Job Role Qualified
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to develop and deploy creative / original solutions to complex problems
· Thorough understanding of company policies and procedures
· Solid product knowledge
· Supplier Relationship Management skills
· College or university degree related to Supply Chain is required.
· Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
· Able to work independently with minimal direction

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
· Minimum of five years of Materials Management experience is required.
· Excellent human relations skills
· Experience in project management
· In-depth knowledge of Material Planning and Inventory Management
· Requires technical knowledge of manufacturing processes and "hands on" knowledge of Caterpillar purchasing/logistics systems
· Previous experience in Global Purchasing and / or material planning is required.
